Often is the question from marketers during coaching sessions on building content sites is wether to use Adsense or Affiliate programs.
A general rule of thumb is always go where the most frequent and high payouts are, but in making the decision between Adsense or affiliate programs, there are a number of things that should be considered.
Initially, it will all depend upon your niche or market. If an affiliate program exists that converts well and also pays well, then you should take the affiliate program route, you can check this out simply by researching the marketplace details within Clickbank, Commission Junction or whichever Affiliate network is your preferred, in my experience Clickbank offers the simplest method and the highest rates of pay per product, however CJ can pay small percentages but on higher ticket items like digital cameras. I’m sure you would rather make dollars than you would cents, so using an affiliate program in this situation would be your best bet. However, if there isn’t an affiliate program, using a pay-per-click service such as Google Adsense will at least allow you to earn a little money from your content site.
This leads to another question though. How do you tell if the affiliate program you are looking at is a good one or not?
The answer to that question will take some research, but will be well worth your time. One of the very first things That I would encourage you to do is to contact the affiliate manager and ask what the average conversion rate is for the affiliate program. You could also ask if they have any affiliates that would be willing to email you their experiences with the product. Once you have the answer to that question, visit a few affiliate marketing forums and ask if anyone has promoted the program before or if they have any experience with the owner or affiliate manager of the site. Usually if it’s a bad program, many people will tell you about it.
If you are finding it difficult to locate any suitable affiliate programs/products for your niche, then I would suggest using “Google Adsense” or any of the other Pay per click programs similar to it, perhaps Yahoo or MSN search marketing. Always check though to make sure you can’t make more money from something else. You don’t want to be making pennies on a site you could be making dollars from. In most cases Google only pays out pennies per click, therefore if you receive 100 clicks and made say $2.00, and then conversly you received 100 clicks on an affiliate link and made $50, it obvioulsy makes a great deal of sense to focus on affiliate programs?
Testing and tracking with a good quality tracking system like Google Analytics is a great way to definitively decide which is the very best method of promotion for your site…in my humble opinion I would use both as long as the larger of the income streams isn’t eroded by the smaller!

Brad Fallon is one of the internets most successful and prolific entrepreneurs, actively marketing products online since 2003 his empire spans across physical product sales,
information product sales, internet marketing, search engine optimization strategies and high ticket seminars.
Probably best known today for his involvement in StomperNet together with partner Andy Jenkins, through which the dynamic duo extend a helping hand to other internet business owners through the StomperNet Faculty a $795 / month membership site. Already boasting astounding successes within the faculty, StomperNet and SMARTS are already exploding members websites into the digital stratospheres.
It is clear that Brads business empire has grown through his in depth knowledge of mastering the search engine optimization game. My Wedding Favors is an online gift based product business which currently boasts an annual turnover in excess of $30M (figures quoted are 2006/7). This business has grown exponentially over a 2-3 year period starting off in a basement in Brads home through to 30,000 ft2 of purpose built warehousing stocking some 300 SKU’s (shop keepers units). Brad has made good use of drop-shippers and overseas sourcing and more recently has outsourced manufacturing in China to create a portfolio of Wedding Favor gifts for every possibility
The strategy of Brads business is focussed on extensive and exhaustive keyword research within a given product area, this is something that he outsources (as most of his activities are today). In addition to the keyword research strategies, volume article marketing and multiple page mega sites play a huge part in the overall marketing structure.
A new service launched in 2008 by Brad and the StomperNet crew is FREEiQ, a service which hosts a cross section of expertise in internet marketing public domain which is ranked democratically using an algorithm based queueing system.
In a nutshell Smart Marketing Inc is a large network or internet marketing, wholesaling and ecommerce retailing businesses that have spawned a series of successful mega product launches into the internet marketing arena. Interlaced with Frank Kern, Jeff Walker, Jeff Johnson and other iM gurus, the sky really is the limit given the resource and expertise that this iM collective can muster up!
The big question here is, with such collaborations being fused in the digital arena what really is coming next will FREEiQ take chance at rivalling Google?!

Frank Kern is one of the internets foremost product launch experts, many of todays highest performing Gurus turn to Frank as a guiding eye on their product launch campaigns.
Originally based in Macon, Georgia, Frank often tells the tale of how tough life was before internet marketing, living with his girlfriend (now wife) India, they operated from a small property on a very low income. Previously jaded by college education and seeing that the guys with the Masters Degrees were finding it hard to make the big bucks, he decided to innovate and become an entrepreneur starting his own business together with a friend.
Franks epiphany came when operating his bricks and mortar dog fencing business (that’s not some kind of canine combat sport by the way), struggling to make ends meet, he was surfing the internet and came across a make money on the internet course by Dan Kennedy, cobbling together the $20 he needed to buy the Dan Kennedy course, Frank pursued an online marketing career with vigour, launching a number of niche products in the form of e-books and taking the internet by mini-tornado!
Earning money on the internet became Frank’s principal earning activity, marketing Shawn Casey’s “Mining Gold” amongst many other niche products, his financial independence arrived to the tune of $500K annual turnover and was shortly seized by the Federal trade Commission (FTC) due to the nature of Franks sales process and the absence of Disclaimers, Copyrights and Terms & Conditions.
Undeterred by the FTC assets seizure, Frank pressed on and resurrected his information empire together with Ed Dale, an Australian Info-preneur, and together they created the Underachiever Mastery System, a course of tutorials and seminars which unveiled the secrets behind niche domination with information products. Underachiever Mastery was an astounding success for Frank and Ed who travelled between USA and Australia chairing coaching seminars to large audiences in key states and cities. John Reese appeared as guest speaker on several of the Underachiever System Seminars which added more bulk to the credibility of Frank and Eds educational course.
The re-birth of Frank Kern into the information marketing arena was a resounding success, buzzing across YouTube, Aussies and Yanks alike were in awe of what had been uncovered by the duo. This buzz opened up the next phase of Franks Internet Marketing empire, as he planned more launches and seminars to a hungry newbie crowd who also wanted the kind of life that Frank had created for himself.
Taking a more ‘Psychological’ approach to internet marketing was a result of Franks childhood, learning from his mother who was a Psychologist, he focussed on the desires and needs of those seeking information on the internet, not solely in the iM arena but in all manner of niches. Adopting a ‘Guru’ like persona within the iM crowd, Frank is now considered to be one of the foremost experts in email marketing, copywriting and product launches, instrumental in the success of the StomperNet launch working closely together with Andy Jenkins and Brad Fallon, Franks efforts in iM are now focussed on high ticket products.
More recently Frank has launched Mass Control, a syndicate which offers the next level of guidance to internet marketers who have established themselves and are looking to ‘get more from what they have got’, through email marketing, video marketing and prospect control. The Mass Control launch created a huge buzz within the iM arena and sold at $1997 per head with a huge seminar held in San Diego for the lucky 500 that acquired seats, out of the 40,000 waiting list Digital Ripple were fortunate in securing positions within the seminar and travelled to San Diego to enjoy two days of solid Mass Control content.
$1,000,000 launches are now commonplace with the likes of
John Reese and
Mike Filsaime and many others, creating a frenzy of pre-launch hype is the key to getting prospects to opt in via auto-responder so that they can slide into the sales funnel and receive a rabid wind-up to the go-live date where iM wannabees wait in line with their credit cards, waiting to be a member of the latest exclusive club.
Frank Kern is almost always involved in this style of launch, masterminding the intrigue, scarcity and fable behind the scenes. A highly effective master in his art, Frank is truly a Guru amongst Gurus.
Very few traces of Frank Kerns information businesses exist on the internet due to the exclusive membership nature of his operation, when Frank says there are only 200 places there are only 200 places! However his latest activities can be seen here on Mass Control Site, awesome free content…a must view!
